INFRASTRUCTURE

Connected Technologies has leveraged one of the fastest and most reliable IP networks in the world. The 10GB/OC192 network architecture provides a superior IT platform to support your online business growth and new technology innovations. The Connected Technologies network enables high throughput and packet-per-second capability, which meets the intensive needs of industries such as VoIP and gaming. Additionally, it delivers the highest possible bandwidth required by companies specializing in rich-media and streaming applications. We harness the power of a strategic peering relationships with over 500 networks and we utilize four Tier 1 upstream providers - Level 3, Savvis, AT&T and Sprint - to ensure continued high performance. Peering lets us reduce latency between the networks, avoid additional third-party network costs, and pass the savings on to you.

Toronto Data Centre

Connected Technologies Toronto data center is located at 151 Front Street in downtown Toronto. 151 Front Street is one of North America's most connected buildings with 9 unique fiber-optic networks and more than 7,000 strands of fiber entering the building. Specifically designed to support telecoms, 151 Front Street has advanced power, cooling and security systems to ensure 24/7 operations. These systems include a standby 325-ton centrifugal chiller and two 4000/5000 KVA transformers fed by dual underground 13.8 Kv feeder lines from fault-tolerant substations.

On-site uniformed security man the premises and surrounding area 24/7/365 as well as a customized security system and protocol. This system is a configurable point monitoring and access control system providing powerful means of monitoring building security devices and systems such as card readers, alarm management, recording of data and comprehensive reporting capabilities as well as a photo identification system.

BANDWIDTH UTILIZATION

It is a common misconception that the amounts of bandwidth (size of the pipes that carry the data) differentiate web hosting companies. In reality it is not only the size of the pipes that matters, it is the utilization levels. The utilization of our Internet connections is vital to a network's ability to transfer data without packet loss or latency. Connected Technologies aims to keep all connection usage below 50% to avoid any connectivity problems.

NETWORK SECURITY

The Connected Technologies network is a fully switched network. Traffic destined for a website hosted on a server is sent only through switching equipment necessary to deliver the information to that server. This minimizes the risk of someone sniffing or capturing traffic being sent across the network. Furthermore, Connected Technologies vigorously prosecutes persons who generate malicious attacks on our internal network.

ENVIRONMENT

Our Data Centres HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems are N+1 redundant to ensure that - even in the event of an entire HVAC system failure - there is a duplicate system on standby to take over. All air is circulated and filtered every 90 seconds to remove dust and contaminants. An advanced fire-suppression system is in place to prevent any fire from spreading - in the unlikely event that one could start.

POWER

Power systems at our POP are designed to run uninterrupted even in the unlikely event of a total power outage. All servers are fed with conditioned UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) power that will run if utility power fails. The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant with instantaneous fail over in case the primary UPS fails. In the event of an extended power outage, on-site diesel generators can run indefinitely. Generators are regularly tested to ensure functionality in the event of an emergency.
